RETAINER INSTRUCTIONS
Wear your retainers as instructed until we tell you to change. If you do not remember, please call our office.
Remove your retainer when eating or drinking (except water). Always put it back in its case! (Most retainers are lost on school lunch trays or restaurants)
Clean the retainer in the morning with an old toothbrush, dish soap and warm water. Denture cleaners such as Efferdent can help but do NOT take the place of brushing. If you’re not wearing the retainer after cleaning, store it upside down so that water can drain and does not pool inside your retainer.
If the retainers are not in your mouth, ALWAYS put it in the case. Retainers can deform or get lost if not in their case.
Speech may be affected but this is temporary! Practice makes perfect and over time you will learn to speak with your retainer in.
If you feel that there is an issue with your retainer, please call our office. Do not try to manipulate it yourself.
Keep retainers away from extreme environments such as really hot water, hot cars, pockets (not in a case), washing machines.
Always bring your retainer to your appointments.
While retainers replacements can be expensive, with proper care they will last for years and maintain your beautiful smile!
